Headaches And Migraines

Headaches and Migraines can be very distressing and debilitating, preventing the ability to carry out normal daily activities. This can have an impact not only on you but your family and friends.

Recent and ongoing research has shown that problems and disorders stemming from the upper part of your neck (cervical spine) can have the potential to cause migraines and headaches.
If you are experiencing headaches for the first time " out of the blue" then you are advised to consult your GP first. If however, you have experienced headaches for many years, then an in-depth assessment of your neck will enable me to evaluate the effectiveness of my treatment techniques.

Some headaches are triggered by stress, food sensitivity, hormonal fluctuations or light sensitivity and by using these techniques I can desensitise the response to these triggers and reduce the frequency and severity of the headaches or migraines.

An internationally renowned Australian Physiotherapist, Dean Watson, who is an expert in the assessment and treatment of headaches and migraines and has been working successfully in this field for over 17 years, has devised the techniques I use.

"Until I began to be treated by Sharon I thought I would have to suffer from headaches every day for the rest of my life….
After just a few sessions the frequency and intensity of my headaches has greatly reduced. I no longer wake up with a headache everyday! I am in a great deal less pain and am very optimistic about my condition improving further. Thank you Sharon!

Treatment of Cording and Scar tissue following Surgery

Sometimes following for example, Mastectomy or Reconstructive surgery, Spinal surgery or a Total hip replacement, there can be restriction of movement and pain affecting simple daily activities. By using specialised soft tissue techniques I can improve flexibility and decrease pain and therefore improve quality of life. Don't put up with chronic pain and restricted movement.

Case Studies

These are factual examples of how the work I do helps my patients. They are deliberately vague in personal detail to protect client confidentiality.

Case A
A lady came to see me following surgery for breast cancer 4 years earlier. She had made a good recovery initially and had done all her exercises following the operation but was now getting a stiff and painful shoulder.
Sometimes a few years following surgery of this nature, especially if radiotherapy has been used in the treatment process, the scar and surrounding tissue can tighten and cause pain and restriction.
I have been on specialised courses and have treated many women with this type of problem and so used these techniques along with home stretches to free off her shoulder.
After a few sessions she had full pain free shoulder movement.

Case B
Following her second hip replacement 6 months earlier this lady was expecting to be pain free and getting on with her life. However she still had pain in her hip travelling down to her knee. She had seen the specialist for a follow up and was told that nothing was wrong with her new hip and that any pain would settle.
When I assessed her scar, it was very tight and so was the surrounding tissues and muscles in her buttock. This was effecting the way these muscles worked and some had become weak. By using specialised soft tissue techniques I was able to free off the scar tissue and muscles and with some simple exercises these became strong again. She was painfree!

"I was referred to Sharon Levett for Physiotherapy in January 2009, after developing lymphoedema in my right arm.
After undertaking 5 sessions over a period of a few weeks, I observed a big reduction in the swelling. This reduction has been measured by the Sheffield Lymphoedema Clinic at over 50%. This has improved my quality of life, enabling me to undertake more activities and reducing my pain levels.
Sharon has also performed work on my back that was very painful after cancer surgery performed 5 years ago. She identified the cause of my ongoing pain and performed physiotherapy that brought relief.
I have found Sharon to be extremely knowledgeable, approachable and very supportive. She is a warm, caring person who instantly puts patients at ease. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sharon’s services."
